Scarecrow competition at the Grandville Fall Fest
This year we made a scarecrow and entered it into the Fall Fest competition. For two weeks in October it sat beside a lamp post on Chicago Dr. among the other scarecrow competitors. Our set up told a story of a River Town employee who was painting pumpkins to get them ready for fall. People voted on the scarecrows during the festival, and although our scarecrow put up a good exhibition, he did not end up winning any awards. We’ll try again another year!
2017 Holiday Toy Drive
In addition to our quarterly food drive, River Town also ran a Christmas toy drive for the children of ACTS Gospel Church. The kids were each given a blank 3-item wish list to fill out, and we received lists back from almost 100 kids.
River Town reached out to employees, family, friends, community neighbors, and suppliers to help fulfill as many items as possible. Over $2,500 in cash donations was raised and over 100 additional items were donated in the form of toys, books, and clothing. Using the monetary donations, we went through the lists one item at a time and picked out the best fit we could for each one. We took advantage of Black Friday deals and holiday sales to help stretch the donations as far as we could.
Thank you so much to all of our donors.
